Pastebot Help
- Will there be a Windows version of Pastebot Sync?
As of now, the answer is no. We are a Mac and iPhone development company and don’t have any experience developing for Windows. Developing a Windows version would take a lot of time and resources for us to do.
- I can’t get Pastebot and Pastebot Sync to find each other.
The first step is to try restarting your router. Don’t ask why, but this has solved the problem for 75% of our users. If that doesn’t work, make sure you aren’t running some sort of personal firewall. Little Snitch or Apple’s default personal firewall can block the apps from seeing each other. Make sure those are turned off.
If you are still having issues, a good way to test if it’s an issue with your network or our app is to download Apple’s free Remote app on the App Store and see if you can get that to sync with iTunes on your Mac. If that app works, send us a support email and we’ll try to figure it out. If it doesn’t work either, then there’s a bigger issue with your network setup and unfortunately, we won’t be able to help solve it.
- How come I can’t copy videos, audio, or other files?
Pastebot was designed to handle text and images only. These are types that are supported by copy & paste all around the iPhone OS. There are no plans to add support for other file types as they go beyond the purpose of Pastebot on the iPhone. If the iPhone OS improves support for other types in the future, we will look into it more.
- Why are my images getting resized when I move them to Pastebot from Pastebot Sync?
The iPhone and iPod touch don’t have the memory and power to handle very large images gracefully. We resize images to around 1600x1600 pixels for use on the device. However, if unedited, the full size of the image will get pasted back to your Mac.
- Will Pastebot Sync support Mac OS X 10.4?
Pastebot Sync uses codebase only found in Mac OS X 10.5 and later. Considering PowerPC machines can run 10.5, we feel that support for 10.5 and later is good enough for 99% of our users.
- Where do the files that I paste to my mac go? I can’t find them!
Images and text you paste from Pastebot to your mac get sent to your Mac’s clipboard. The Paste to Mac action is equivalent to hitting command-v or Edit/Paste from the menubar. You need to be in an app that supports pasting the particular file type you are trying to paste.
We have made an exception with images. You are able to paste images directly into the finder or iPhoto.
- Why do I have to open Pastebot every time I want to save a clipping?
As of now, the iPhone OS doesn’t allow Pastebot to run in the background. So it has no way of knowing you copied something in another app. It can only check once you run it. If Apple ever allows more ways for apps to run in the background, we’ll be ready to support this feature.
- Will Pastebot ever sync over the internet?
There are no plans for this at this time. This makes sense for a notes app, but Pastebot is primarily a clipboard manager and the instant transfer of data via WiFi is much better suited for this, especially when it comes to images.
