Tweetbot Help

General Troubleshooting Tips

Restart your Device.

A lot of issues are easily resolved by simply restarting your iOS device. If you are having problems, try this first. If restarting doesn’t help, you may want to try re-downloading the application and installing it again. You may not have the latest version of the application and maybe we already fixed your issue in an update. Another possibility is having corrupt data and a new install could fix that. If you want to remove the application from your device first, just be aware that removing an application will delete application data for good.

Gestures and Shortcuts

Tweetbot has many ways to navigate your timeline faster. Single-tap a tweet to reveal the actions drawer. Links and the user's profile (avatar) are also accessible with a single tap.

To quickly access actions for a user, link, or tweet, just hold down on the appropriate element for a second. An action menu will be revealed for that item.

You can also triple-tap a tweet to quickly reply. The triple-tap is customizable in the settings. You can configure it to fave, retweet, reply, or translate.

Swiping a tweet from left to right will reveal the conversation around that tweet. Swiping from right to left will take you to the details of that tweet along with the conversation around it.

Finally, if you drilled down deep into subviews, you can quickly get back home by holding down on the back button in the navbar for a second.

Does Tweetbot have Push Notifications?

Yes, but they are disabled by default. You can turn them on by going to Settings > (Your Twitter Username) > Notifications.

How do I send more than one image in a tweet?

By default Tweetbot uses Twitter's image service. They only allow one image per tweet. You can add more than one image per tweet by changing your image service. Go to Settings > (Your Twitter Username) > Image Upload to change it.

Is there a fast way to report spammers?

You can report spammers by either going to the block/spam button at the bottom of the user's profile (top navigation bar on iPad) or hold down on the user's avatar in the timeline for a second. An action menu will be revealed with the option to report the user for spam.

How do I view twitter conversations?

You can either view conversations from a tweet detail view or use the shortcut gesture. Just swipe on a tweet from left to right (or right to left) and you'll be able to read the conversation.

How do I view a tweet's details?

To view details of a tweet, you can either swipe a tweet from right to left or tap once to open the drawer and then tap the action button (last button in the drawer).

How do I see who retweeted my tweets?

Tap on a tweet to open the drawer. Tap on the action button (last button) and select "View Retweets".

How do I remove tweets from my timeline?

You can delete your own tweets by tapping on your tweet to open the drawer, tapping on the action button (last button) and choosing "Delete". If you are getting mentions from a spammer, holding down on their avatar and reporting them for spam should remove their tweets as well. If you don't want tweets from someone in your timeline, you can either unfollow or mute them. Muting someone allows you to hide their tweets for a specific amount of time and they will be unaware of it. Both of these actions are available by holding down on a person's avatar in your timeline.

How does the mute feature work?

Muting is a simple way to temporarily (or permanently) hide tweets from people you follow. When you mute someone, you can select a predefined duration to hide their tweets.

You can mute specific services or keywords by going to the mute tab and hitting Edit, then the plus button.

Finally, you can mute hashtags by holding down on a hashtag and selecting the mute option.

Muting only hides tweets from your timeline. They don't hide mentions or direct messages.

How location data works

There’s a lot of misunderstanding about how locations work in Tweetbot. There are 3 types of location data and you can choose which you prefer most.

By default, turning on locations on a tweet will choose a Twitter Place. Most of the time this is a City. It does not give your exact location away on purpose. Many people like to provide a location stamp without telling everyone exactly where they are. This default option is for you. But there’s one caveat. If you live in a city/country that Twitter’s Places doesn’t support, it will default to the nearest known city. Sometimes this ends up being in another country. This is a result of Twitter’s Places not having data for where you live. If this is an issue, we recommend using coordinates.

Coordinates is another way to share your location. If you tap on the blue location button, you’ll see an option to select coordinates. This is for people who want to share their exact location. You’ll see coordinates when composing your tweet, but Twitter will return and display the city automatically if it can. It will also mark your exact location on the map. If accuracy is important to you, we recommend this option.

Finally, there’s an option to select points of interest. If you tap on the blue location button, you’ll be able to choose from various businesses or landmarks in your area. Keep in mind the results are limited to the POI’s that Twitter is able to provide. This option needs to be selected manually for each tweet.

Marking Your Timeline or Direct Messages as Read

Tapping on the iOS time status bar at the top is the universal way to scroll to the top of a view. However you can also double-tap on the timeline or mentions tab button to scroll to the last read tweet. Double-tapping it again will scroll to the top. Double-tapping on the direct messages tab will mark all your messages as read.

What is Favstar and how do I access it?

Favstar is a popular site for tracking twitter favorites. You can view a tweet’s favstar details by opening the tweet drawer, hitting the action button (last button) and then hitting the favstar.fm button. You can also view a person’s most popular tweets by going to a user’s profile, hitting the action (gear) button, and then on “View in Favstar”. Double-tapping on your profile tab button will show you your most favorited tweets on favstar. Finally, if you subscribe to favstar bonus features, you can award “tweet of the day” by holding down on the fav button.

What is iCloud Sync? How do I get it to work?

With this feature, you can sync various things across multiple instances of Tweetbot (ex. between Tweetbot for iPad and Tweetbot for iPhone). Mute filters, DM read status, and your place in the timeline are all synced. So you can always continue reading where you left off between multiple devices. If you need to sync your timeline between other Twitter clients (like Twitterrific), you can change your sync service in the account settings to use Tweetmarker. Tweetmarker is a 3rd party sync service.

Getting iCloud Sync to work properly can be tricky for some. Here are a few steps to make sure you have everything set up correctly:

1) In the iOS settings, go to iCloud and make sure you are logged into the service (with the same iCloud account on both devices)

2) In the iOS settings, go to iCloud and make sure “Documents & Data” are enabled. If “Use Cellular” is turned off, iCloud Sync may not work if you are not on a wifi network.

3) In Tweetbot, go to your Settings -> Username (under Account Settings) -> Sync and make sure iCloud is selected on both devices for the same account

4) If it’s still not working, try rebooting your device. The next step would be to try re-installing Tweetbot on all your devices.

What is the blue bookmark icon for?

This is an optional marker that tells you what tweet is currently set as the last iCloud or Tweetmarker sync point.

When I tweet an image, why doesn't the image preview show up on my tweets?

The image preview doesn't show up on your own tweets intentionally because your avatar is already on the right side. Having the image preview there are well would clutter up the right side.

How do I return to the root screen quickly from multiple levels deep?

If you ever end up multiple levels deep in Tweetbot, hitting the back button 5 times to get back to the main timeline can be annoying. Instead, just hold down on the back button and it will send you right back home.

What is the plus symbol in the middle of my timeline?

When there are more than 200 tweets that need to be loaded in your timeline, you’ll see a gap with a plus button. This signifies that there are tweets that weren’t loaded there. You can control which way the gap loads depending on the position of the gap on screen when you tap on it. If you like to read tweets from old to new, tap on the gap button when it’s in the top half of the screen to correctly load without losing your place. If you read new to old, tap on the gap button when it’s in the bottom half of the screen.

What is the Mobilizer option in the settings?

Mobilizer strips images, javascript, and css from web page views so it can load content faster. Different services do this a bit differently. When viewing a website within Tweetbot, you can turn this feature on and off in the toolbar in a web view.

How do I retweet from another account?

Ever see a tweet that you wanted to retweet on one of your other accounts? Just hold down on the retweet button and select the account you want to retweet from.

How do I post from another account?

Have you ever started to write a tweet and realize you are composing from the wrong account? Just tap on the title button to quickly switch the account you are composing from.

How do I customize the navigation tabs?

On the iPhone, the last 2 tabs in Tweetbot are customizable. This is denoted by the arrows next to the icons. Just hold down on one of the last two tabs for a second and it will reveal a list of sections you can choose.

On the iPad, You can hide unused tabs by going to Settings > Navigation. You can't disable the first three.

How do I view tweets from my lists?

The list section of the app is for managing your lists.

If you want to view tweets from a list on the iPhone, just go to your timeline and tap in the center of the navbar (between the Accounts and New Tweet buttons). You'll be able to use any of your lists as your timeline.

On the iPad, there's a list icon in the navigation bar of the timeline view.

Tweetbot keeps crashing. What can I do?

If your device is jailbroken and you have hacks that change how Tweetbot functions, make sure you remove them. This is the most common reason why Tweetbot crashes.

If Tweetbot keeps crashing, send us the crash reports along with a brief explanation of where it crashes to [email protected] To learn how to find crash reports, visit http://bit.ly/crashreports.
